SELECT AND BETTER: This is the top grade of Starwood Manufacturing prefinished floors. A flooring product of mostly heartwood with a minimum number of character marks and discoloration, providing a uniform appearance while allowing for all heartwood natural color variations.

Will admit the following 3/8” bright sapwood entire length of strip or equivalent if not extending further than 1” for 1/3 length of piece; small burls and equivalent characters such as small tight checks; in the absence of these, one thin brown streak 1/8 “ in width and 3” long to be allowed every 6’; slight imperfections in the face work (torn grain) are admitted.

Planks may range in length from 16" minimum to 72" maximum.

Minimum average length is 2 ¾’ . Packaged in cartons with finish protection between layers. 20 sqft per package.

SELECT: A flooring product with color variations produced by differences of natural heartwood and sapwood, along with characters described below.

The face of plank may contain unlimited sound sapwood and natural moderate variations of color; occasional small burls; light brown streaks not more than 1/8" in width that do not extend over the entire length of a piece; occasional small tight knots; occasional broken knots or worm holes, only if properly filled; slight imperfections in the face work (torn grain) are admitted. Pieces with ½ tongue are admitted.

Planks may range in length from 14" minimum to 72" maximum.

Minimum average length is 2 ¼’ . Packaged in cartons with finish protection between layers. 20 sqft per package.

TRADITIONAL: A flooring product which contains prominent variation in coloration, along with characters described below:

The face of a plank may contain unlimited sound sapwood and extensive variations of the color; small burls; light brown streaks; small tight knots; all other open characteristics to be properly filled and finished; slight imperfections in the face work (torn grain) and burns. Pieces with ½ tongue are admitted.

Planks may range in length from 12" minimum to 72" maximum.

Minimum average length is 2’. Packaged in cartons with finish protection between layers. 20 sqft per package.

RUSTIC: A flooring product with a rough look with a limited amount of unfilled/unfinished open characters, and a limited amount of pieces with finish irregularities such as bubbles, small skips, lines, stains/colour variations, surface handling scratches and minor trash.

Planks may range in length from 8" minimum to 40" maximum.

Minimum average length is 10”. Packaged in cartons with finish protection between layers. 20 sqft per package.

Starwood Manufacturing produced floors from Plain Sawn lumber. Planks are considered “flat-grained” when the annual growth rings make an angle of less than 45 degree  with wide surface of the board. It is easy to recognize by its parabolic (arched) effect. Figure patterns resulting from the annual rings are usually brought out more conspicuously. Plain Sawn flooring may contain any combination of planks with different grain orientation: flat as well as vertical.
